My Services

01.

Individual counseling is helpful for a variety of reasons, such as increasing an individual's self-awareness, encouraging self-exploration, identifying boundaries, enhancing communication skills and improving the use of healthy coping skills.   Typically, in our first few individual sessions, we will spend 50-60 minutes exploring your concerns.  During this time, we will work to build our relationship and identify the concern(s) you wish to address.  Over the next few sessions, we will continue to work together to gain a clear understanding of your concerns and what services would best address them.  Suggestions may include more individual sessions with me, the addition of other practitioners and referrals, other types of therapy for example couples or group counseling, and/or referral to another mental health provider. Once we have agreed upon the issues to be addressed, we will work to clearly identify your goals, develop a plan, and implement the plan.  We will evaluate our progress and direction at regular intervals.  We will typically meet once a week (sometimes more often) and our sessions may include various additional types of therapy to supplement our traditional talk therapy (for example; expressive arts, animal assisted therapy, breath work, journaling, etc.) depending of your individual needs.

The more work (both during and outside of therapy) you put into your journey, the more successful you

will be!

Depending on the nature of your problem, group therapy can be an ideal choice for addressing your concerns and making positive changes in your life.  Group counseling or group therapy involves one or more therapists working with several people at the same time. Typically, groups are made up of 5 to 15 people who meet together for 90 minutes to 2 hours once a week.  Depending on your individual needs, you may participate in group counseling/therapy only or you may participate in group counseling while also participating in individual therapy.

There are several benefits of group counseling.  Groups can provide support networks for group members.  It is therapeutic to understand we are not alone and others have experienced similar issues.  Groups can also provide a sounding board to individual members from group members.  Groups help you develop social skills, teach you about how others experience you, and cost less than individual therapy.  Sharing in groups can be very healing and you can learn new coping skills from others’ experiences as well.

There are many different types of groups.  Some groups target a particular problem or problems such as post-partum depression, social anxiety, substance abuse, or caregiver burnout.  Other groups focus more generally on improving social skills, helping people deal with self-esteem, or developing self-care skills.  Other groups may focus on specific skills such as dealing with loss/grief, assertiveness skills, or anger management.
